GEORGE GRETTON
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
I mainly do it for the moments when everything clicks, and you’ve just come up something you’re really excited about. For me it’s usually playing around with different sounds or layers, and then suddenly something just works and I’m lost in that world. The same applies with rehearsing tunes for live. You can be slogging away at it for days, then all of a sudden you realise that it’s sounding really tight. They’re the moments that keep me excited.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Listening to amazing music of any kind. I love hearing artists or producers that don’t really sit in any genre, but still create some sort of feeling in you. If I hear something like that, I’ll stop what I’m doing and start it again from the beginning. Then I’ll conclude that what I’ve been making recently isn’t up to scratch, so will get straight to making something new. Friendly competition in my own head basically.
IF ANY ARTIST COULD FEATURE ON ONE OF YOUR TRACKS WHO WOULD IT BE?
This changes all the time, but probably Jai Paul. I take a lot of inspiration from his stuff. Or FKA twigs, her features are always great.
ONE ARTIST THAT DOESN’T GET THE CREDIT THEY DESERVE?
Right now, I’d say Jamie Isaac. I can’t understand why he isn’t absolutely massive.
JAMES BLAKE OR KENDRICK?
That’s a hard one. I’ve probably listened to James Blake a tiny bit more and everything he touches is gold, but people will be talking about Kendrick in 100 years, so Kendrick (just about).
