GEEKFILES
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
I’ve always had a creative personality so creating geekfiles was essentially me trying to turn those ideas into something more tangible. It started as more of a creative dump, at the start I only really knew how to edit so I went to some shows and made some videos and people started fucking with it. I think shortly after it felt very natural to pick up a disposable camera and start shooting the people around me. The anticipation for developing film is sick, and the reactions that come with it, shooting someone and then being able to show them after a few days and they’re gassed. It’s simple but it’s a good feeling. I think through that it became more of a hobby and I started meeting way more people from different backgrounds. I wouldn’t have met a lot of genuine, interesting people if it weren’t for this.
WITH THE LAST YEAR BEING SO TOUGH TO DO ANYTHING, WHAT’S KEPT YOU MOTIVATED?
Truthfully, last year slowed the process a lot for me. I feel like I was starting to build a momentum then lockdown just shut that down. Obviously with my work being very people-centric it was impossible to do anything for a while, I try to prioritise consistency so to keep that up I just started posting old content. But in terms of motivation, I kept creative through making edits for people on fiverr, made some money off it as well which cool. Also xbox, I started sweating GTA over summer but I love rocket league and skate 3, they’re all I play. The support for my work is crazy though, from my friends to people that somehow come across my insta, that’s what kept me and still keeps me motivated.
WHAT ARE YOU INFLUENCED BY DAY TO DAY?
I can’t lie I don’t really have any major influences. I feel like through having a big interest in fashion and being surrounded by cool people I’ve developed a personal taste for what I think is cool and what isn’t, people just happen to appreciate it which I’m grateful for. If anything it’s just the environment i’m in that inspires and influences my work.
DO YOU FEEL THERE’S EVER A TRUE BLUEPRINT FOR CREATIVES OR THE RIGHT PATH TO BE SUCCESSFUL?
This is a hard question ngl. The internet is a crazy place, there’s a lot of nonsense so it’s easy for hard work and talent to get overlooked. I know a lot of amazing creatives that deserve to be light years ahead of certain people that are given a platform. It’s different for everyone though so I don’t think there’s any single formula to becoming successful, things take time so I think people should focus on their work instead of worrying about how to be the next big thing.
WHERE DO YOU SEE GEEKFILES IN YEARS TO COME?
To be honest i’ve got a lot of things planned for geekfiles. I want it to extend it beyond pictures and videos. IM GONNA drop merch. I wanna do a book, host parties and events, do collectible action figures, prints, a magazine. I’ve got a lot more ideas this is the stuff that keeps me up at night. Geekfiles is just an extension of where I’m at creatively. I wanna do it all, it’s a process but I know I’ll get there eventually.
