DEPARTMENT FOR DANCE
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
It wasn’t ever really planned. After a lot of our pals went off to Uni. We ended up spending way too much time with each other. We were always bouncing music back and forth between us. Last summer I ended up having a bit of time on my hands so I started planning that first party. After we finished up with that in October I’ve never really thought about it too much. Just keeping on the same path.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Organisations like Rush Hour are definitely worth a mention. I love to see people pushing all sorts of music and not just getting stuck on one route. Record labels like ‘Awesome Tapes From Africa’, ‘Kalita’, ‘Dark Entries’, ‘Afro-Synth’ - there’s something amazing about discovering old tunes and re-earthing them now.
IF YOU COULD HAVE DFD IN ANY VENUE WHERE WOULD IT BE?
Outdoor. Festival sort of vibes. Laid-back. Somewhere where people can have a dance, chill out. We were working on something very similar for a good couple of months but all has had to be cancelled - hoping to have it sorted for next summer though.
DREAM DJ TO PLAY AT DFD?
Dream DJ is a tough one. I guess Rush Hour head-honcho Antal would probably top our list. Also, Palms Trax, Hunee, Bianca Lexis, Kamma and Masalo. Electronica-wise I’m more inclined with darker techno and industrial stuff from people like Hector Oaks, Helena Hauff, CEM.
BARGAIN HUNT OR HOMES UNDER THE HAMMER?
hOMES UNDER THE HAMMER, DION DUBLIN FOR THE WIN.
